Pole Setting

Pole Setting

Setting a service pole requires specialized equipment, experience, and knowledge of local and state codes. At McIver Electric we have the experience behind us to make sure the job goes right.

Setting an Electrical Service Pole

Installing an electrical service pole involves placing a treated wooden pole (typically 20+ ft, buried 4–6 ft) to support utility connections. The process includes mounting a meter main and grounding components in compliance with NEC and local utility codes.

Key Steps

  • Preparation & Permits: Choose a location clear of underground and overhead utilities with proper clearance from buildings and roads.
  • Pole Installation: Dig a 4–6 ft hole, set the treated wood or metal pole, and compact soil for stability.
  • Equipment Mounting: Install the meter base and service panel 4–5 ft above ground.
  • Grounding: Drive a ground rod at least 6 ft deep and connect it to the panel with a grounding electrode conductor.
  • Wiring & Connections: Run conduit and service conductors, leaving adequate pigtails for utility hookup.

Knowing what to do and doing it safely is why McIver Electric is the one to call.
